Delo Brown on Perseverance, Purpose, and Creating Opportunities for Women in Comedy

An Exclusive Sitdown with Delo Brown

There are comedians who make people laugh.

Then there are comedians who build movements.

My good girlfriend Delo Brown is doing both.

When Delo joined me for NH Spotlight Tonight, the conversation quickly became about much more than comedy. It became a conversation about perseverance, purpose, entrepreneurship, and what happens when you stop waiting for opportunities and start creating them yourself.

For years, audiences nationwide have seen Delo commanding stages, delivering laughs, and building a loyal following. But behind the punchlines is something even more powerful: a woman committed to creating space for others.

And that commitment has become the foundation of her growing platform, Ladies Love Comedy.

The Girl Who Kept Going

One of the most revealing moments of our conversation came when Delo reflected on where she was ten years ago.

Many people see the success.

They see the sold-out shows.

They see the growing brand.

They see the confidence.

What they don’t see are the years in between.

The setbacks.

The uncertainty.

“She would be surprised that I kept going. The perseverance. The tenaciy. The audaciousness. The boldness.”

The moments where quitting may have seemed easier than continuing.

Looking back, Delo says the thing that would surprise her younger self the most isn’t necessarily where she is today.

It’s the fact that she never stopped going.

That mindset has become one of the defining characteristics of her career.

Because for Delo, success wasn’t built overnight.

It was built one step at a time.

Learning Patience The Hard Way

Like many ambitious creatives, Delo admits patience has been one of her greatest challenges.

And one of her greatest teachers.

In an industry that constantly encourages people to compare themselves to others, she has learned that growth doesn’t happen on anyone else’s timeline.

It’s a lesson many artists spend years learning.

Respect the season you’re in.

Celebrate the small wins.

Trust the process.

Delo understands that every major accomplishment is built on dozens of smaller victories that often go unseen.

That perspective has helped her remain focused on the long game.

Building Ladies Love Comedy

Three years ago, Delo recognized a problem.

She wasn’t seeing enough women, particularly Black women and women of color, represented on comedy lineups throughout Los Angeles.

Instead of waiting for someone else to fix the issue, she decided to do something herself.

That decision led to the creation of Ladies Love Comedy alongside her business partner Brittni Dixon.

“I wanted to create a show for people who look like me.”

The stunning comedians ignite the stage @ Ladies Love Comedy

What began as an idea has now evolved into one of the most exciting comedy experiences in the city.

But Delo is quick to point out that Ladies Love Comedy was never meant to be just another comedy show.

It’s an experience.

It’s a community.

And it’s a platform.

The goal isn’t simply to entertain audiences.

The goal is to create opportunities.

That mission continues to drive everything the organization does.

From carefully curating talent to creating welcoming spaces for performers and audiences alike, Delo’s focus has remained consistent from day one.

Throughout our conversation, one thing became abundantly clear.

Delo doesn’t view herself solely as a comedian.

She’s a producer.

She’s an entrepreneur.

She’s a community builder.

And she’s unapologetic about stepping into those identities.

When asked what she’s learned about herself through building Ladies Love Comedy, her answer was immediate.

“I’ve learned that I’m that bitch.”

We fell out laughing right after. Because that’s what we do.

But underneath the joke was something important.

Confidence.

Not arrogance.

Confidence.

The kind that comes from doing the work.

The kind that comes from surviving difficult seasons.

The kind that comes from watching your vision become reality.

Comedy Rooted In Truth

One of the reasons audiences connect with Delo is because her comedy feels authentic.

That’s because it is.

Her material doesn’t come from manufactured stories or exaggerated personas.

It comes from life. (And yes, Mr. Charles is real!)

While comedians naturally embellish details for entertainment purposes, the emotional truth remains real.

Those experiences become the foundation of her storytelling.

And audiences recognize honesty when they hear it.

That authenticity has become one of her greatest strengths as a performer.

As successful as Ladies Love Comedy has become, Delo’s vision extends far beyond local stages.

She dreams of building a household name.

A platform people anticipate.

A brand audiences trust.

A destination for discovering women in comedy.

During our conversation, she compared that vision to what Def Comedy Jam once represented for stand-up comedy.

It’s a bold goal.

But if there’s one thing Delo Brown has proven repeatedly, it’s that boldness is part of the blueprint.

And perhaps that’s what makes her story so compelling.

She’s not waiting to be chosen.

She’s choosing herself.

Again and again.

And every time she does, she opens the door for somebody else to walk through it too.
